女媧（じょがい）とは、中国神話に登場する女神です。伝説によれば、女媧は天と地が分かれた際に、天を支える柱を作り、人間を作り上げたとされています。また、女媧は十二支のうちの一つである「羊」で表され、中国では「女媧补天」という伝説があります。この伝説によれば、女媧は天地が分かれた際に天を支える柱を作るために、穴を掘っていたら天の柱が傾いで砕けてしまい、天を支えるために残った三本の柱を支えることになってしまいました。このため、女媧は神話や伝説の中で、大地を作り上げる神として尊敬されています。
