American reader using Google translate started reading fan translations but was such a good story I had to know what happened next. The author completely sets the bar for being summoned by demons, the only complaint I have is that kuroki is too indecisive and acts more like a grey knight than a dark knight but I guess you can call that a character quirk. All in all great story with great characters and development even side characters like Rember have you rooting for them. Hope the story continues for much longer and all hail Kuna.
American reader here, but have come to really love this story. I started with a fan translation and have moved on to read all of the original story on Syosetsu and every chapter released here on Kakuyomu.
Dark Knight is a fun twist on the typical re-incarnated plot line. Instead of being summoned as a hero, or even a hero's companion, Kuroki is summoned to defeat the hero. This entire story starts off with Kuroki taking up the request from the Demon King Modes to repel the hero. Only to make things more interesting, Kuroki knows the hero and his companions; they were people he knew back in Japan. Fairly clever, and I enjoy the dynamic and internal struggle that Kuroki goes through at times because of this.
As a fellow author, I am impressed at Nezaki's ability to juggle so many different characters and character archetypes. Each character feels unique and stands out amongst the crowd.
The story is fairly well built, with tremendous world-building in my opinion. The romance and action are my favorite parts of the story, however I also enjoy the comedic bits that Nezaki puts in there to keep us entertained. Given that this rewrite of Dark Knight is finally catching up to where the original left off on Syosetsu, I am excited to finally see where we are heading.
P.S, I have some thoughts about future story progression/character progression that I would love to share with you, Nezaki. If you are ever okay with a Google Translate conversation (I'm attempting to learn Japanese, but it's a hard language >_<), please feel free to send me a message. Or, we could just talking about writing fantasy :)
