1. About parents
2. In search of relatives (Posted on 'Help Line' of a dairy paper)
3. Relatives
3. Relatives
I did not know how to express the joy of knowing the existing relatives. I felt as though I were in heaven.
Mrs. Onozaki, who knows my father and grandfather well, lived in Tokyo. Not withstanding it was a sudden phone call, she talked as if the events had occurred only yesterday. In those far off times when she was only nine years old, she had decided that one day she would marry Hisako's father. But when she learnt that he was going to Brazil she told her family that she did not want to go to a country so far away. And she had fled to her relatives. While we were talking over the phone, Tomi-san was at my side and knew what had been said. Thanks to H. reporter, I knew many cousins were living in Kanto District.
After the accident had happened one of the relatives read about it in the paper and telephoned me and asked, "Was it your son by any chance?"
At the vigil, I was reminded that one of the cousin's sparse hairs were like my father's and another cousin was squatting in the way he used to. While Fumi-chan who is closest in age with me, resembled me very much in voice and in the shape of fingers. I realized the influence of inheritance. Despite the sad occasion of the vigil, I felt a great joy of reunion on the other hand. (End of Chapter 5)
