(V) The God Mark Legend
(A) Mt. Dantoku
Mt. Dantoku is located near Ota Village, Ibo County, Harima Province. A trail of a horse's hoof is on the big rock at the top of the mountain. It is said it was left by Prince Shotoku when he rode off. There were 2 pines 100 ~ 200 meters away, and the horse was tied to them. The shrine enshrining Prince Shotoku is located in Ikaruga Village, about 1 kilometer away. When you step on the side of the rock there, it sounds like there is a cavity underground. A faddy man tried to dig there with a hoe and lost his sight in one eye. Since then, anyone who digs there is said to have one eye, and no one tries to dig. The one-eyed man is still alive. I asked him if it was true, and he said something like it was true. (Seika Sato)

(B) Uto Gongen Shrine
There is a limestone cave at the foot of Mt. Hikodake at the north end of Yahata Village, Minami-Amabe County, Bungo Province, Oita Prefecture. The villagers built a small shrine in it and named it Uto Gongen. On the beach to the south of Uto Gongen Shrine is the Omiya Hachiman Shrine of the District Shrine. A long time ago, Hyachiman and Gongen fought a war, and Gongen lost, he was cornered in the valley of Mt. Hikodake, and he was completely unable to move forward or back. The rock in front of him was steep as if it had been scraped, and Hachiman was already approaching from behind. There was no place to hide, so Gongen grabbed the rock in front of him, ripped it off, hid behind the rock, and fled from Hachiman. In fact, a helmet-shaped thing is left inside the Uto. Uto means a cave. (Norito Enokida in Yawata Village, Minami-Amabe County, Oita Prefecture)
