Minase (waterless stream) River is located at the west end of Hachioji Town, Musashi Province. There is no water in the 330 meters, but there is enough water upstream and downstream.
A long time ago, Kobo Daishi stopped by a farmer's house and requested water. It was just a hot summer day. The old woman who lived in this house refused, saying that she couldn't give it to him so easily in my house because water was drawn from the river in the back. Then Daishi had no choice but to go to the river in the back and drink water. He poked the ground there with his stick after drinking. The high-ranking shrine in this province is located in Miya Village, Ono County, Hida Province. A long time ago, an excellent monk from somewhere came to a Zen temple called Daido Temple in this village and gave a sermon. An old man, who always came there, saw that the sound of the river was so loud that the audience was troubled, and said, 'I will stop the sound of the water.' Then, strangely enough, the sound of water disappeared the next night. When people went to the river, they found that there was water flowing upstream and downstream, but only there was a river field. The god of the shrine ordered a fish named Ajime* to dig into the bottom of the river so that water could flow underground, and even today, the villagers do not eat the fish. The weather always gets rough if anyone comes to the village with the boiled fish. Ajime is similar to loach, but more slimline and has a pattern shaped like a hawk's wing.
