I think this is quite an unpleasant development from the reader's point of view. The persecution and torment he suffered in the hands of everyone is excessive. Even if prioritizing your more talented son instead of a "failure" is logical from the standing of an important ancient family, to hear the protagonist monologing to somewhat excuse the excessive cruel actions he faced is too much. I understand forgiving Lilia, but wishing her happiness with her bastard of a brother is just ridiculous, he tried to kill him for crying out loud!
