〈 現状認識 〉

（ ２ ）ご存じの通り、地球は緊急かつ未曽有の危機に直面しています。ベテルギウスの重力崩壊で引き起こされた超新星爆発は、小惑星アポフィスの軌道を地球に衝突する方向に変えたのみならず、同時に地球の磁場を大きく狂わせてしまったため、小惑星の衝突で受けるであろう被害を、人類全体が絶滅しうるほどに悪化させてしまいました。 この一年弱、人類は、持てるあらゆる英知を結集して、衝突回避のために取りうるあらゆる手段を検討し、実行してきました。しかし残念なことに、ＩＣＢＭによってアポフィスを破壊するという、最高水準の軍事技術を人類救済のために使用する試みは失敗に終わりました。今、私がお話ししているこの瞬間も、小惑星は地球に向かっています。

〈 Recognition of the current situation 〉

（ ２ ）As you are all aware, Planet Earth is facing an urgent and unprecedented crisis. The supernova that resulted from the gravitational collapse of Betelgeuse has not only altered the trajectory of the asteroid Apophis so that it is on a collision course with the Earth, but it has disturbed the Earth’s magnetic field so severely that the damage that is expected to be caused by the asteroid’s impact with the Earth may well lead to the extention of all humanity. For almost a year, humanity has collected all the intelligence we retain, considered all possible options, and implemented them to try to prevent the collision from happening.　Regrettably, an attempt to destroy Apophis by ICBMs, that is, an attempt to employ the world’s highest military technology for the sake of saving mankind, was unsuccessful and consequently even as I speak to you, the asteroid is still making its way toward the Earth.

（ ３ ）所轄の国連機関によって報告された予測によると、この事象単体のトリノスケールは最悪より一ランク低い九であるものの、五年以内に人類が滅亡する可能性は九九・九％になっています。というのは、この数字は、地磁気の異常に起因する有害宇宙線の増加と、地球規模の異常気象が続いて起こる影響を考慮しているからです。

（ ３ ）According to the projection reported by the UN agency in charge, the Torino Scale for the collision this time alone stands at 9, which is one notch below the worst level. However, the possibility of the extinction of human beings within five years has risen to 99.9%. For not only do we have to take into account the damage that will occur as a result of the asteroid's impact, but we will most certainly experience abnormal weather worldwide and an extremely dangerous increase in radiation caused by cosmic rays produced by the supernova.

（ ４ ）世界の政治指導者の皆様は、真実を人々に明かすべきか、秘密にすべきかという苦渋に満ちた葛藤の中で、後者を選ぶに至りました。事実は大半の人々に絶望と悲嘆しかもたらさないだろう、それならば、差し迫った悲運を知らされることなく、ある日突然の死を迎える方を選ぶだろうと思い至ってのことでした。

（ ４ ）The world’s political leaders, faced with a cruel dilemma: whether to reveal to the masses the truth or to keep the news secret, decided upon the latter. They believed that revealing the truth would only bring despair and distress to most of the human race and that most people might prefer just to die one day without ever having a premonition of their impending doom.

（ ５ ）しかしながら、事実をすべて隠蔽するのは不可能でした。独自に活動するアマチュア天文学者による調査がインターネットに投稿され、瞬く間に世界中に拡散しました。今やこの事実は大半の人の知るところとなり、人々の心は荒廃し、世界は悲しみに打ちひしがれています。

（ ５ ）The decision to keep the whole truth from the masses, however, soon proved futile as follow-up research by ingenious amateur astronomers was posted on the Internet and was very rapidly made known throughout the world. Now the majority of the people know the truth and they feel devastated. People have become overcome with sorrow.

【regrettably（リグレッタブリ）】（残念ながら）、【extinction（イクスティンクション）】（絶滅）、【despair（ディスペア）】（絶望）、【distress（ディストレス）】（苦悩）、【devastated（ディヴァステイティッド）】（途方にくれる）など、ネガティヴなイメージを担当するワーズであっても、キジシマ派の思想にいまだ染まっていない者も多く、彼らはタッチ・ハート作戦に協力的だったので、彼らはユキと杏児の指示のもと、次々に飛び立って行った。

　ユキは、度重なる時間の進行遅延行為で杏児が心配になるほど体力を消耗しているようだったが、杏児はあえてユキに声をかけなかった。今は文字通り、力尽きるまでミッションを遂行しなければならない時だからだ。

　杏児は意識を目の前のワーズたちに集中する。彼らの背中を押してやりながら、ネガティヴ・ワーズたちに願いを託す。

「あまりに悲観的にしすぎないように、頼む」

　彼らのネガティヴ・エネルギーは、聴衆である各国代表をやみくもに落ち込ませるために使われるべきではない。あくまで現状認識を共有しておいて、この後に続く、ポジティヴ・ワーズたちによる引き上げ効果を高めるためだ。

「お手柔らかに……」

　おかしなお願いを彼らにしながら、杏児は心がざわついていた。
