第33話 A lack of women’s rights is a serious problem in Japan?
A gender inequality has been widespread throughout Japan and discussed for decades. But unfortunately, there is still far from equal society in Japan. We should pursuit for better society and working environment for women. I provide three cases as serious problem for women.
Firstly, women have been suffering from "mommy track" which diverts women from going toward to promotion and higher career after giving birth. Accordingly, there is significant pay gap between men and women. Women seemingly earn only 70% of what men earn.
Secondly, occupancy rate of women at the parliamentary seat is much less than that of men which will turn out to be little voice of women reflected into the policy-making decision. Legislation or any law can be made reflecting the men-oriented perspectives. it is absolutly unfair.
Finally, women stil face sexual harrasment and gender-based discrimination which lead to women who become isolated and feel nervous and feel uncomfortable at their working environment that will lead to decreasing the motivation of working and in worst case which will lead to making them leave the company.
In conclusion, there are several serious problems which makes women discrimated in terms of payment, working environment and politics. We should take countermeasure for achieving ideal place for women.
