 1. About my parents

My mother Koyumi, who was a midwife by profession, had come from Wakayama Prefecture. When she and her husband had set out for Brazil, she had separately shipped her instruments, but they had not been delivered.

Only the stethoscope and enema apparatus which she had carried with her were available to her. The father born in Meiji era, a man of few words and did not talk about hid family at all. So, the whereabouts of her relatives had been unknown. I found that he came from Ibaragi prefecture which had been recorded on the Family Register which I had requested when I came to Japan.

My friend Tomi posted on the column 'Help Line' of Y. Daily and later the reporter in charge, Mr. H., found the relatives.

 2) In search of relatives (Posted on 'Help Line' of a daily paper )

 Y. Daily dated October 24, 1993, reported that they had successfully found the relatives of a Japanese-Brazilian woman searcher.

Summary of the report

[A letter from a reader: "A Japanese-Brazilian who works as caddy is going back to Brazil in December and she would like to see her relatives in Japan before she returned home. Cannot we make her wish be fulfilled if possible?( A superintendent of women's dormitory in a golf club. * )(* Auther's note: the letter was written in mid-October.)

 ******

This woman is Mrs. Suzuki Hisako (49), Brazilian name, Luiza Sizako da Silva. Her father Akira and mother Koyumi were married some 60 years ago. They already have passed away.

Their eldest daughter Hisako had been bereaved when her husband died 14 years ago. Therefore she had brought up her three children working for the bank in Sao Paulo.

Then an unfortunate incident happened to her. Her house was assaulted by a group of lobbers and was picked clean of everything from television, furniture to clothes. And inflation over 30 % a month gave an additional blow. Her salary could not keep up with the price rises even though she reduced spending on food.

Her son had come to Japan on his own and had been working in Kanagawa Prefecture, and later changed to Gumma Prefecture. At friend's suggestion Hisako-san, also came to Japan in February 1992, and started working as a caddy.

At first, because of the differences in language and customs she felt unbroken tensions every day. But thanks to the encouragement of the clients and colleagues she has adopted to the work and life and has been promoted to a group leader of caddies. She is greatly trusted by her colleagues.
