第24話 Stop and Search

And then, I met Christina, an English teacher from England, at a bar. Surprisingly, my attempt at picking her up went quite well. However, not long after we started dating, it seemed like she realized that something was off with my mental state.

One evening, I went to her apartment and rang the bell, but she wasn't there. I thought she'd be back soon, so I waited at the entrance. Instead of her, a police officer on a scooter showed up.

The first officer who arrived asked, "Can you show me your ID?" So, I presented it, thinking, "You probably doesn't have a gun or anything." Then I said, "You I do my body check or whatever."By the way, are you really a police officer?". He showed me his ID.

Then, two more officers on scooters showed up. One of them went to Christina's apartment. After a while, he came back to me and shouted, "She says she's not dating you anymore!" I was so shocked.

A little later, three detectives in a white car arrived—two men and one woman. The female detective said to me, "Just let her go." But since she was insisting, "We're not together anymore," what is this woman even saying? She's treating me like a stalker! I thought, and I got furious.

Right after that, I went to a Korean adult entertainment establishment. The girl, Sona, who came out had long limbs and was beautiful. When I said, "Let's get married," she responded cheerfully with, "Sure!" She suggested going to a hotel. I waited for her to finish work and went there by car. In the morning, she said she wanted a ¥70,000 white coat from Hankyu Department Store, so I went back home to get my credit card.

When I got home, my younger brother, who had taken the day off from work, was there. He said, "Big brother, you're manic right now. Go to the hospital!"

"What? Manic? What are you talking about? I'm feeling great right now!"

However, my brother was taking a day off work just to ask me this, it must be serious, I thought. So, I had him drive me to the hospital. I saw a doctor, and sure enough, I was diagnosed with mania. I didn't realize that the high I'd been experiencing for the past few weeks was actually a manic episode of bipolar disorder. It was my first experience with full-blown mania.
