"Mr. Miyahara. Rumors are only rumors. We have never stated that it is Jesus.

We just suggested that possibility. "

"What do you mean?"

"The Bible is not a historical fact. The Old Testament includes historical facts that were later scientifically proven by Tiller Prism (Note 15), but the description of the New Testament is more of a Bible prophecy than a historical fact. We think it would be more correct to say that the original description of Jesus' life, that is, the historicalization of prophecy, as the theologian Crossan pointed out."

"It's a historical Jesus problem that originated in the New Testament scholar Bultmann."

For about a month before visiting the Phoenix Headquarters Life Prolonging Association, both Risako and Miyahara were learning the minimum related matters.

"Aside from Bultmann's claim that the Gospelists accepted a number of folklore about Jesus that preceded them and wrote each Gospel based on their doctrinal standpoint, there are certainly many unknowns about historical Jesus. Most arguably, historical sources from the Roman and Jewish sides, who were allegedly hostile to Jesus, had a man sentenced to treason against the Roman emperor. "

"Non-Christian primary sources have not been found to date. The oldest historical source of Jesus within Christianity is the New Testament "Pauline Epistles," but in the letter it was the resurrected Jesus, not the historical Jesus, who testified that Paul had met. It is now believed that Jesus was born around 7-4 BC. It is said that he was born to his parents, the carpenter's father Joseph and his mother Maria in the town of Nazareth (Note 16) in Galilee, Palestine. 「新約聖書学者ブルトマンに発する史的イエス問題ですね」

　フェニックスの本家延命協会を訪れるまでの約一月間、理紗子も宮原も最低限の関連事項を学んでいる。

「福音記者たちが彼らに先行したイエスに関するいくつもの伝承を受け入れ、それぞれの教義的立脚点に基づき各福音書を著したというブルトマンの主張はおくとしても史実上のイエスについては確かにわからないことが数多くありますね。もっともイエスと敵対したとされるローマおよびユダヤ人側の歴史的資料により、ローマ皇帝に対する反逆罪で磔刑に処された男がいたことは、まず間違いないと考えられていますが……」

「非キリスト教徒による一次史料は現在に至るまで発見されていません。キリスト教内部におけるもっとも古いイエスの史料は新約聖書の『パウロ書簡』ですが、書簡の中でパウロが出会ったと証言しているのは復活後のイエスであり、史的イエスではありません。現在ではイエスは紀元前七年から前四年頃に出生したのであろうと考えられています。パレスチナのガリラヤにあるナザレの町（註１６）において大工の父ヨセフそして母マリアを両親として生まれたとされています。妹や弟がいたとも考えられています。二十代半ばにヨルダン川で師である洗礼者ヨハネから洗礼を受けたものの、やがてヨハネの教団からは離れ、独自に伝道を始めたとされています。イエスが説いたのは神の意志に従う行動であり立法に従うことではなかったので、パリサイ派と呼ばれる当時主流の律法学者たちと衝突し、最終的にローマ皇帝に対する叛乱の首謀者という罪名で磔刑に処せられたと考えられています。もっとも歴史学者の中には――ミスター・ミヤハラの御国の例を挙げればタイラ・ノ・マサカドのように――イエス自らユダヤ人の王としてローマの支配体制に抗する武力蜂起を試みたと考えている者もいます。その結果、ローマ帝国が派遣したユダヤ総督により、当時のテロリスト集団熱心党（ゼーロータイ）のメンバーとして磔刑に処せられたという解釈がなされるわけですが……」

「いずれにしても、伝承は史実ではないと」と宮原。

「そういうことになります」とゴールドシュテイン博士。

　ついで宮原と理紗子が案内されたのは見るからに培養のためとわかる大型槽が百以上もびっしりと並べられた広い部屋だ。

「ここが、あなた方の目的の場所です。さあ、こちらへ。培養層の中がもっと良く見えますよ」

　ゴールドシュテイン博士に促され、細い金属製の梯子段を昇り、狭いキャットウォークに到ると宮原たちが培養槽の中を覗き込む。
