第29話 An American breakfast（アメリカの朝ごはん）

I and my friend Maria went to the American breakfast restaurant.

(私と友人のマリアは、アメリカの朝食を出すレストランに行きました）

American loves American breakfast.

(アメリカ人はアメリカ風の朝食が好きです）

Even the schools sell the American breakfast for lunch.

(学校でもランチにアメリカンブレックファーストを売っているほど）

Today's restaurant is serving only American breakfast all day long.

（今日行ったレストランは、アメリカ風の朝食だけを提供しています）

Maria ordered eggs, a slice of ham and hash browns in one plate and one big blueberry pancake with sliced bananas.

（マリアは卵と、ハムをひと切れと、ハッシュブラウンをひとつのお皿で、大きなブルーベリーパンケーキを一枚、別のお皿で頼みました）

Usually, they have pancake, waffle, buttermilk biscuit, French toast and toast.

（大体、パンケーキかワッフルか、バターミルクビスケットかフレンチトーストかトーストがあります）

They call small size pancakes as 'hotcakes' in this restaurant. Some restaurants call them 'drop pancakes.'

（このレストランでは小さなサイズのパンケーキを「ホットケーキ」と呼んでいました。ほかのお店では「ドロップパンケーキ」とも呼びます）

Pancakes have some flavors.

（パンケーキにはいくつか種類があります）

Plain, blueberry, walnuts and chocolates are popular ones.

（プレーン、ブルーベリー、クルミ、チョコレートが一般的です）

We have to choose hash browns, french fries, baked potatoes or mashed potatoes.

（ハッシュブラウンか、フライドポテトか、ベイクポテトかマッシュポテトかを選びます）

Also, we have to choose how to cook the eggs like sunny side up, scrambled or omelet.

（卵をどうやって調理するかも選ばなくてはいけません。目玉焼きかスクランブルエッグかオムレツです）

Then we have choice of bacons or sausages besides hams.

（ハムのほかにもベーコンかソーセージを選べます）

They call seasoned ground pork as a 'sausage'.

（味付けされた豚ひき肉を、ソーセージと呼びます）

Usually we order sausage like 'sausage patty' or 'sausage links'.

（大体、「ソーセージパティ」とか「ソーセージリンクス」と頼みます）

Sausage patty shapes round flat one like a hamburger.

（ソーセージパティはハンバーグのような丸くて平たい形です）

If you want to eat sausage shape one, you have to say, 'sausage links'.

（ソーセージの形のものを食べたいときは、「ソーセージリンクス」と言います）

And they also call hamburger patty as a hamburger. Some people call a ground beef as a hamburger.

（ハンバーグのパティを「ハンバーガー」とも呼びます。牛ひき肉のことを「ハンバーガー」という人もいます）

I ordered Country- fried steak, scrambled eggs, hashed browns and banana bread.

（わたしはカントリーフライドステーキと、スクランブルエッグとハッシュブラウン、それにバナナブレッドを選びました）

Country -fried steak is deep flied thin slice of beef with crispy batter. The country gravy is on top of it.

（カントリーフライトステーキは薄切りの牛肉にカリカリの衣をつけて揚げたものです。カントリーグレイビーが上にかかっています）

The country gravy is white sauce with sausage.

（カントリーグレイビーはソーセージ入りのホワイトソースです）

I saw it a lot in South. They also pour a lot of country gravy over the biscuits.

（よく、南部の方で見かけます。カントリーグレイビーをビスケットの上にかけたりもします）
