Zashiki-warashi also happens to be a girl. It had long been said that two girl gods lived in the old house in Yamaguchi named Yamaguchi Magozaemon. One year, however, a man from the same village came home from town and met two unfamiliar girls by a bridge in Tomeba. The girls came over here looking lost in thought. When he asked her where she had come from, she replied, "We're from Magozaemon's house in Yamaguchi. When he asked them where they were going, they replied that they were going to X's house in a certain village. X's family is a wealthy farmer who still lives in a village a short distance away. He thought, "I'm sure Magozaemon's house is done for. Some time later, more than two dozen masters and servants of this house died in a day from mushroom food poisoning, and only a seven-year-old girl survived. She was also old and childless, and had recently become ill and died.
