Many of the old houses have a god named Zashiki-warashi living in them. Many of these gods are children about 12 to 3 years old. Sometimes they show up in person. At the house of a man named Imabuchi Kanjuro in Iide, Tsuchibuchi Village, his daughter, who was in high school, came back on holiday recently. One day in the hallway she ran into Zashiki-warashi and was very surprised. It really was a boy. In the Sasaki family in the same village, Yamaguchi, the mother was sewing alone when she heard a rustling of paper coming from the next room. This room was the master's room, and since he was away in Tokyo at the time, she thought it suspicious and opened the door, but there was nothing there. She sat there for a while, and then she heard the sound of nasal rumbling again. Surely, she thought, it must have been Zashiki-warashi. It has been living in this house for a long time. It is said that the house in which this god dwells, wealth will be as it is meant to be.
