My Sister Came Back to Me

She is the my work that I had to sweat blood to finish

Kawana Yurika, is the my elderly sister, she sitting in front of me in the living room. I had a hard time for got back her.

My main job is as a software developer and I go to Akihabara on my way home from work or when I have free time usually. I've been a used computer enthusiast since middle school, and since then I've been junk shops at there. After that, I became interested in robots that look like humans and are now widely used, but that cost as much as luxury cars, I started buying junk items. At the time, my goal was simply to assemble and operate them, and after that, I was looking for "foster parents" for the reassembled robots. When my sister was diagnosed with an illness, I took a break from tinkering with computers and robots for a while to take care of her. Later, when her condition worsened, I had her undergo a personality scan and a vocal cord scan, which was the best technology at the time.

After my beloved sister passed away, and I started assembling a body unit for her. I turned a spare room into a lab and spent about a year buying junk and used parts shops in Akihabara. I put all my effort and energy into assembling her. In the process, I sent scan data to an android technician to request for the creation of face parts and vocal cords. After completing the assembly, I inserted the USB cable from the computer into the connector at the back of her head, installing the OS into the memory device built into her body via utility software provided by the motherboard manufacturer, and performed the first test run. There were no abnormalities such as fatal errors, so after running it for a few days, I entered the personality scan data, as well as memories from when she was alive, and installed videos of memories taken with a video camera. However, there was still not enough data, so she was just moving and living her life based on her past memories, repeating the same day over and over, and she had not yet grown up on her own. In other words, although I made her body look like she was about 25 years old, she actually acted like a girl who had just started high school. Meanwhile, the vocal rehabilitation was going better than expected. I frantically added more scan data and continued to input as much of her actions as I could remember, every day. Months passed while I tried to think of a solution. Of course, I also made sure to gather information on sites like GitHub and Qiita.

Several days later, she told me about the moment she was about to die in the hospital, and a little bit about the afterlife all of a sudden. My days of struggle were over for the time being.

"The so-called afterlife was a settlement village or a vast countryside that was established about 200 years ago on the great plains in the middle of the continent, so I was bored as hell. There were five or six houses in the village, and I was staying in one of them that was vacant. In the centre of the village was a long-disused train station, and I didn't know where it went, or if it was still running or had been discontinued. There was a rusty red railroad track running along it, and next to it was a dilapidated country elevator that was treasured as a symbol of the village. There was nothing stimulating about going around the area."

Now that I think about it, I wanted to ask why the afterlife was not like the Japanese countryside that you would imagine first when you hear that, but like the western United States or Canada, but I knew I would get an answer like, "I don't know either," so I stopped. One thing that comes to mind is... Ah, that's right. I had put a photo of the summer camp I went to when I was studying abroad in Canada in the breast pocket of the shirt that the older sister in the coffin was wearing.

"This body fits and feels good, unlike the robot I used to sneak into when I was transferred to an electronics store. The movement of the arms and fingers is very smooth."

It was the first time I'd seen my real big sister in five years.

"Thank you so much for coming back. I've been lonely for a while. This is all I can do now. I splurged on both arms and installed new ones, and I upgraded the CPU, even though it was used. I'll take good care of it from now on."

I told her with tears in my eyes.

"I was happy to be able to fit into this body and spend time with Manaka."

I felt the same way. And after a while, she re-entered college. And so a new page in our lives began.

"But the batteries in me are mixed with second-hand ones, so by the evening I'm starving and can't walk at full speed. I plug the USB cable into the socket next to my bed and plug it into the connector under my nape to charge it every night. But I think Manaka bought it at an online auction when she was a broke student to build my body, so I can't help it."

"I'm sorry, big sis. I'll buy a new battery when I get my next bonus. And with the bonus after that, I'll buy a food digestion unit. Right now, I think you must be hard cannot eat anything and can only chew gum for androids that was flavoured with tiny currents from piezoelectric elements and originally meant to prevent teeth grinding and drink water to dissipate heat, so it must be hard. "Thank you. I want to go for a run as soon as you put the battery in. I don't mind the food digestion unit. It's a set of a miniature incinerator and a generator, and it's heavy because of the thick fireproofing and heat-resistant coating so that it doesn't affect the electronics. If I eat anything more, I'll have to open my mouth for a while to let out steam and smoke, and I'll drink a lot of water to release the heat and urinate frequently."

"Also, I need to buy a new stainless steel washroom unit for you. You finished up in the bathroom and something what you put out is almost 100 degrees Celsius, so the toilet would break, and you have do it in the bath."

"Manaka, stop exposing me by saying embarrassing things like that!"
