I'm a a typical escapist, for me stories are a way to escape boring reality and have fun in worlds where interesting things happen often. So, the thing I like about stories is the very thing he dislikes. Since reality is so bitter and boring, why would you want more of the same thing even in stories? Well, some people's lives are of course interesting, and historical time periods can be interesting to learn about, so it's not like all factual literature is uninteresting to me. Also, even in fantasy, there must be a certain amount of realism and internal logic, in order to help immersion.
