第15話 Okunai-sama

If you enshrine Okunai-sama, there is much happiness. The Abe family, the chief priests of Kashiwazaki, Tsuchibuchi Village, is called the house of the rice paddies in the village. One year in this house they were short of people to plant rice, and the weather was not good tomorrow, so Abe muttered to himself, "We won't be able to plant some of the rice in the paddies". Then a short boy came out of nowhere and said, "I want to help, too," so Abe let him work as he was. Abe looked for him in the afternoon to feed him, but he was gone. He came back and worked well all day and finished planting the rice later that day. Abe said, "I don't know where he is, but he invited me to come and have dinner with him in the evening," but after dark, he disappeared again. When Abe returned home, he found many small, muddy footprints on the veranda, which he stepped into the sitting room and disappeared at the Okunai-sama altar. When he opened the door, he found that the statue was covered with mud from the rice field from the waist down.
