Alonium

第1話 That is Alonium.

Do you prefer being with everyone, or do you prefer being alone? How about when you are with everyone? Perhaps you like being with people who share similar values. The answer varies from person to person. However, there is a strange phenomenon of rejecting entities that are different from oneself and only connecting with similar entities. This may sound unlikely, but it could be a story about a certain chemical substance.

When it was first confirmed to exist in the world, it was named Alonium. It loves solitude and only bonds with similar entities even if it forms connections. Therefore, it was named Alonium, derived from the English word 'alone.' Of course, Alonium itself is not abundant, making it challenging to find. This scarcity reflects the nature of Alonium, which enjoys solitude.

Some scientists questioned this nature. However, no matter who conducted the experiment, the result was the same. Alonium, when brought close to other substances unlike itself, always distanced itself, avoiding contact. It was like the north and south poles of a magnet. Some scientists expressed the relationship between Alonium and other substances in this way.

As a result, scientists began to take a greater interest in Alonium. What would happen if Alonium were placed inside a mass of substances tightly bonded together? Would it bond when heat is applied? Scientists conducted numerous experiments under various conditions. However, the results remained consistent. Alonium strongly disliked contact or bonding with other substances, regardless of the environment.

Not only scientists but also people were intrigued. What is Alonium? Where did it come from? To investigate, individuals with resources began funding the research activities of scientists. This marked the beginning of the Alonium era.
