前のエピソード――５　Faust: Was murmelst du?

Faust:Ja, mein Kind! laß dieses Blumenwort dir Götterausspruch sein! Er liebt dich! Verstehst du, was das heißt: Er liebt dich, er liebt dich!

Gretchen: Mich überläuft's!

Faust:O schaud're nicht! laß diesen Blick, Laß diesen Händedruck dir sagen, was unaussprechlich ist: Sich hinzugeben ganz und eine Wonne zu fühlen, Die ewig, ewig, ewig sein muß!

Faust:Yes, my child! Let this flower's words Be the verdict of the gods for you! He loves you! Do you understand what that means: He loves you, he loves you!

Gretchen: tremble!

Faust:Do not tremble! Let this look, Let this pressure of the hand say to you what cannot be expressed: Wholly to give yourself up and feel bliss That must last for ever!

ファウスト：無邪気な娘だね！　神が花占いで、真実を告げているんだよ。君はある男から好かれている。

ひとりの男として、君を愛しているってことだよ、わかるね？

グレートヒェン：私、震えてきましたわ。

ファウスト：震えることはないよ。ほらね、うまく言葉にできないが、この腕を君のために広げているんだ。君はここへ飛び込むだけでいいんだ。

そうしたら、ずっとずっと至福のときを過ごせるんだよ。ふたりの愛は、永遠に続くんだ。
